Pancreatic Cancer UK - The APPG on Pancreatic Cancer

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on pancreatic cancer was established in 2012, by a leading group of parliamentarians with an interest in making a difference for pancreatic cancer.

Web development

Alley Media has worked with Pancreatic Cancer UK in the past, when they required a Facebook App for their involvement in the international Purple Lights for Pancreatic Cancer campaign. The app simply allowed their Facebook followers to sign up to their Thunderclap campaign via a dedicated Facebook page tab. See below to learn more about the Purple Plights campaign. Pancreatic Cancer UK provided the secretariat to the APPG on Pancreatic Cancer, and had asked us to do a website, running on WordPress (for easy updates, and ease of use, in case the secretariat duties are handed over). You can see the project here. Like all of our work, it is a fully responsive website, looking good on devices of all sizes.
We also extensively worked with Pancreatic Cancer UK on the Purple Lights website as the campaign was such a huge success. Every November, landmarks light up in purple to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer.
The brief was as follows:
  • Simple layout responsive on all devices
  • Needs a form to allow people to submit "light-ups"
  • Needs a map with search functionality
  • Needs a gallery with images of light ups
  • Needs a FAQ section
  • Needs to run on a CMS so as its easy to update and add "light-ups"
We decided that it is all possible on WordPress - a custom post type was added to accomodate the light up as well as some plugins created and others modified to allow the search functionality Every year the website is edited to update some content and the dates as well as to enable the form. The charity was trained to add "light-ups" and update the gallery.
